Municipal Court

In New Jersey summonses for traffic infractions (driving while suspended, speeding, etc.), minor criminal charges (minor drug charges, fighting, theft, bad checks, etc.), zoning and local ordinance violations and DUI/DWI are heard in the town Municipal Courts.

Individual Criminal Charges (disorderly persons offenses) heard in a Municipal Court carry with them a potential fine of up to $1,000.00 (plus Court costs and State Assessments), the potential of 6 months incarceration and a loss of driver’s license of up to 2 years.  Alcohol and Drug Charges involving a motor vehicle may have mandatory minimum loss of driving privileges as an outcome.
